Each month, three minutes before midnight, the screens of Times Square transform into the world’s largest coordinated digital art platform. The December 2025 Edition continues this tradition by presenting a newly commissioned video artwork visible across dozens of electronic billboards.

Mission:
The mission of Midnight Moment is to integrate contemporary video art into one of the most recognizable public spaces on the planet. By replacing advertising with art, the program challenges the traditional boundaries of public visual culture, introduces audiences to new creative voices, and redefines how digital space can be used as a site for artistic expression.

The event is organized by Times Square Arts (the public art program of the Times Square Alliance) in partnership with the Times Square Advertising Coalition and participating digital screen operators.

General admission costs
Admission is free. No tickets or reservations required. The event takes place outdoors in public space.
Times Square is accessible via numerous subway lines, including the N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, 3, A, C, E and S shuttle train connecting with Grand Central. Penn Station and Port Authority Bus Terminal are within walking distance. Due to high pedestrian density, public transit or walking is strongly recommended. Taxis and rideshares have designated drop-off zones along 7th Avenue and Broadway. Winter visitors should plan for seasonal weather conditions.

Midnight Moment was launched in 2012 as an initiative to introduce digital art into Times Square’s visual ecosystem. It has since become the world’s longest-running and largest coordinated digital public art program. Over the years, the event has featured works by internationally recognized artists, experimental filmmakers and multidisciplinary creators. The program has developed into a cornerstone of New York’s cultural calendar, demonstrating how public art can redefine the meaning of urban space.
Arriving 10–15 minutes before 11:57 PM ensures optimal viewing positions. The best vantage points are located between 44th and 47th Streets along Broadway and 7th Avenue. Photography and video recording are encouraged. Winter months can be cold and windy due to open-air conditions, so visitors should prepare accordingly. The event pairs well with visits to nearby theaters, restaurants and cultural venues, making it an ideal nighttime activity in Manhattan.
