Turkey’s art calendar looks different when Ankara becomes the starting point. ARTANKARA holds its thirteenth edition at ATO Congresium on 17–21 March 2027, with ordinary public admission beginning on 18 March. The opening date is reserved for an invitation-only preview, a distinction that matters before any travel is arranged.

The fair brings galleries into contact with a broader field of art education, institutions, publications and materials. That mixture gives visitors a view of how artistic production is supported, as well as what appears on a gallery wall. The most rewarding route keeps those different roles clear while allowing connections between them to emerge.

ARTANKARA’s announced framework accepts national and international galleries, museums, art-education organisations, associations, foundations, publishers and other participants. The range of work includes painting, sculpture, ceramics, graphics, photography and new media. A programme of workshops, talks, seminars and performances is also part of the fair’s published visitor description.

The 2027 participant total, confirmed gallery roster and session timetable have not yet been established in the pages checked. The organiser reports 150 participants, work by more than 1,500 artists and 88,000 visitors for the completed 2026 edition. Those are historical figures, not a promise of the new edition’s scale.

This distinction is particularly useful for a fair with several kinds of exhibitor. ‘Participant’ does not necessarily mean commercial gallery, and the number of artists represented is different from the number physically present. Once the 2027 list is published, use the named organisations and their proposals to decide which part of the event most interests you.

ARTANKARA 2027 Event Overview

ARTANKARA 2027: Dates, Tickets & Visitor Guide

Dates:

18 March 2027 - 21 March 2027

Location:

ATO Congresium, Söğütözü Caddesi No. 1, Söğütözü, Çankaya, Ankara, Turkey. Keep the venue’s name and Söğütözü address together when arranging transport. The organiser’s office is at a different address and should not be used as the visitor destination.

Mission:

ARTANKARA gives contemporary visual art a recurring public platform in Turkey’s capital. Its broad structure can connect gallery activity with artistic education and cultural institutions. The value of that breadth lies in showing the relationships through which art is made, taught, discussed and collected within a particular city.

Organizer:

ATİS Fuarcılık, through the ARTANKARA team. The fair has been held in Ankara since 2015 and returns as its own event, separate from the commercial art fairs based in Istanbul.

Why attend to ARTANKARA 2027?

The strongest reason is the opportunity to explore Turkey’s art scene through the capital’s institutions and audience. A country’s artistic life is not limited to the visibility of its most internationally recognized city. A fair can facilitate encounters with a different set of galleries, educational relationships, and collecting interests.

The variety of participant types also provides a valuable comparison. A gallery’s presentation, an educational institution’s project, and an artist publication each demand attention in different ways. Following one medium across these contexts can reveal how a practice is interpreted, supported, and introduced to diverse audiences.

Ticket Information

General admission costs

The official 2027 visitor page lists student and adult categories, including daily and combined options, but currently leaves the price amounts blank. Admission therefore cannot be described as free or assigned a reliable price range yet. Use the enquiry form on this page to request the available tariff and session conditions. The invitation-only opening remains separate from ordinary public admission.

Getting There:

Plan the journey to the Söğütözü venue from the actual arrival point. The organiser’s location guidance distinguishes Esenboğa Airport, Kızılay and AŞTİ bus terminal approaches; the transfer is not the same from each. Use a current route planner for the chosen day and allow time for the exhibition entrance rather than only the building’s address.

For readers visiting from another Turkish city, keep intercity travel separate from the final local transfer. If attending a timed talk or workshop, leave a margin between arrival and the session. The 2027 public programme will determine which activities require a specific place in the day.

Accommodation

A stay near Söğütözü can simplify repeat visits, while a central Ankara base may suit a wider institutional itinerary. Compare the full journey in both directions. A short-looking distance on a map does not establish how easily an evening visit will fit around other appointments.

History & Context of a ARTANKARA 2027

The fair’s thirteenth edition follows ARTANKARA 2026, held on 25–29 March at the same venue. The 2027 dates move earlier in the month. Its history belongs to Ankara’s developing exhibition infrastructure and should be considered separately from the international branding of Istanbul’s fairs.

The Contemporary Istanbul 2026 coverage offers a different Turkish point of reference. It is neither the previous ARTANKARA edition nor a simultaneous event. The comparison is useful for readers examining how different cities and organiser models introduce contemporary work within the same country.

What Has Changed Since 2026

The edition advances from twelve to thirteen, with the announced period changing to 17–21 March and ordinary public access starting on the 18th. The fair has not yet published a reliable 2027 participant count in the pages checked. Programme and gallery changes should be described from the new list when available, rather than estimated from last year’s attendance.

Interesting Fact

The 2026 workshop programme placed a mime performance inside the fair: Ankara Art Center’s Existing Within One Another!, directed by Bülent Durmaz. It appeared alongside activities in engraving, watercolour and ceramics. The fair’s programme therefore included a work whose material was a moving body, rather than an object that remained on display after the action ended.

That changes the visitor’s task. A painting can usually be revisited later in the day; a live gesture requires presence at a particular moment. The historical example gives a concrete reason to read the next programme carefully. It does not establish that the performance returns in 2027, but shows how the fair has previously extended beyond static displays.

Tips for Visitors of ARTANKARA 2027

Begin with the participant category that matters most to your visit, then follow a specific interest into another part of the fair. A focus on ceramics, drawing, or printmaking can provide a coherent route. Read the exhibitor’s identity before treating every display as the same kind of commercial offer.

Tips from the ArtExpoWorld

For another West Asian event later in the spring, Art Dubai 2027 opens to the public on 9–11 April, after its 7–8 April preview days. The two fairs require separate trips, but their proximity in the season makes a useful comparison between a Turkish capital-city platform and a Gulf gallery setting. Our international art fairs in March 2027 selection provides additional choices for the March dates themselves.

Editor’s Note

ARTANKARA interests us because it places contemporary art within a broader public infrastructure. Galleries, educational organisations and publications help determine how artists become visible long before an international reputation is established. A fair that allows those relationships to be examined can offer more than a survey of objects for sale.

Breadth also carries a curatorial risk. If every kind of display receives the same treatment, the distinction between a teaching project, a material demonstration and a resolved artistic proposition becomes blurred. We would look for presentations that establish their purpose clearly, allowing a visitor to judge the work according to what it actually attempts.

We recommend Ankara as a deliberate addition to a Turkish art itinerary. The reason is the possibility of encountering another institutional and artistic network at close range. The fair’s scale is relevant, but the lasting value will be found in particular practices whose decisions become clearer through the presentation and the conversations around it.
