The Christchurch Art Show took place at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre on 1–3 May 2026, with a Friday preview and opening night followed by two public show days. Its artist-led format brought original works and their makers together, giving visitors an opportunity to discuss materials, ideas and collecting directly with the people behind the art.
The show’s focus was direct exchange between artists and audiences, across painting, printmaking, sculpture and other original work. Confirmed participants included Brenda Nyhof, David Dawon Choi, Ann Ciciani and Sally-Ann Davies. Nyhof’s post-show account describes stand installation, conversations with visitors and the range of artistic voices gathered at Te Pae.

An artist-led encounter with original art at Te Pae
1 May 2026 - 3 May 2026
Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, 188 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch Central City, New Zealand
Mission:
To connect New Zealand artists directly with visitors and collectors through an accessible exhibition of original art.
Organizer:
Art Shows Across Aotearoa / The Christchurch Art Show
The show’s direct artist contact made it possible to go beyond a label or price and ask how a work was created, what influenced it, and how it fits within a broader practice. The variety of media also encouraged visitors to compare established and emerging voices within Aotearoa’s art scene.
The 2026 show has ended. The VIP preview, opening night, and weekend show days were separate visiting sessions. A reliable edition-specific historical tariff has not been confirmed, so current 2027 prices are not presented as 2026 admission.
Te Pae is in central Christchurch at 188 Oxford Terrace, beside the Ōtākaro Avon River. The venue provides step-free public access and nearby drop-off points. It has no on-site public car park, so check surrounding parking or use local transport and allow time for the final walk to the entrance.

The Christchurch Art Show forms part of Art Shows Across Aotearoa, a network of events centred on meeting artists and viewing original work. The 2026 edition used Te Pae’s central-city exhibition setting for a weekend of presentations and conversations.
The 2026 schedule listed a Friday 1 May VIP preview from 17:00–19:30 and opening night from 19:30–22:30. Public show days were Saturday 2 May, 10:00–20:00, and Sunday 3 May, 10:00–17:00. These historical sessions should not be confused with the organizer’s later 2027 programme. Ask artists about the ideas, materials and care requirements behind a work.
