Event Overview
A major winter photography event arrives in Berlin, bringing the iconic Magnum collective into focus through the eyes of women who reshaped documentary storytelling.
This exhibition stands as the centerpiece of the Berlin Photo Week Winter Edition — a season dedicated to raw, honest and deeply human photographic narratives.
1 November 2025 - 28 January 2026
C/O Berlin, Amerika Haus Hardenbergstraße 22–24, 10623 Berlin, Germany
Mission:
The mission of this exhibition is to foreground the voices of women within Magnum — voices historically overshadowed by the collective’s more widely known male members. Through portraits, conflict documentation, intimate diaries and long-term social projects, the show highlights the power of proximity, empathy and presence in storytelling. It encourages viewers to reflect on who gets to document history — and whose perspective reshapes our understanding of truth.
Organizer:
Organized by C/O Berlin Foundation in collaboration with Magnum Photos, as part of the seasonal programming of Berlin Photo Week – Winter Edition 2025.

“Close Enough” takes its title from Susan Meiselas’ legendary statement that the photographer must be “close enough to care.
” The exhibition traces the evolution of women’s participation in Magnum from the mid-20th century to today. While historically underrepresented, their contributions shaped the emotional and ethical framework of documentary work.
The exhibition also connects to Berlin’s lineage as a city of photography — from the Bauhaus era to modern photojournalism — positioning this winter edition as a continuation of the city’s long photographic heritage.
